At this secondary school, three classrooms and the administrative block were renovated, three new classrooms were built and the whole school was electrified. The school now has nine classrooms in which 13 classes from grade 7 to grade 10 with 688 children are taught. This project was financed by the Otto Kieninger Foundation.

On 9 August the first three DMG mini-scholarship holders completed their training in 2024. Liliana Francisco Ngovene from Massingir, Ana Maria da Almeida from Vilankulo and Salvador Carlos Matavele from Nhamavila completed their training in tailoring and sewing with the Salesians in Lhanguene and are now doing a four-week internship. At the end of the internship, around mid-September, they will be sent off and return to their original place of residence, where they will look for employment or work independently if applicable. The picture shows the three vocational scholarship holders and a DMG supervisor, Mrs Hesker. The clothes they are wearing were designed and sewn by themselves.

At the Salesians' vocational school in Lhanguene, the first trainees completed the accounting and commercial solutions course. On 23 August, 53 graduates ceremonially received their diploma after their two-year training. This course includes learning the Primavera programme, the most sought-after business management software solution in Mozambique. At the end of this training, the graduates can take up a position or continue their education in the field of accounting and management.

The introduction of this training was financed by the Schaber family, Wohnbau-Studio company from Stuttgart.

On Saturday 13 July, 20 new DMG mini-scholarship holders met for a day trip. Organised and accompanied by the two DMG staff members Mrs Hesker and Mrs Bila, the young people were able to visit the most important buildings of the capital Maputo and drive across the big bridge to Katembe, where they enjoyed a shared lunch.

Years ago the building was constructed up to the shell stage by an initiative of the community population. It had no windows and there were some construction defects. With funding from the Fälschle family, the building was completely renovated and finished. The school building now comprises 4 modern classrooms – the goal is to build three more classrooms in the future and gradually transform the school into a basic school.

At the end of May, all DMG schools and preschools collected school supplies in a campaign for the benefit of the Pillekat basic school in Muxara, Pemba. The region in the north still suffers from the large wave of refugees due to riots in Cabo Delgado. Many of the pupils are poor and have difficulty acquiring school supplies. Across the DMG projects, exercise books, pads, books, ballpoint pens, pencils, coloured pencils, rulers and erasers were collected and transported to Pemba.

The Brandl family financed the construction of two additional classrooms. The school thus has a total of 6 brick classrooms, 3 huts made of local building material, sanitary facilities and a staff room. The school teaches grades 1 to 6, this year 397 pupils. From 2025 the school is to be successively expanded into a basic school – then grades 7 to 9 will be gradually introduced.

In the Chongoene district, in the village of Nhamaville, the DMG renovated and expanded a secondary school for around 940 pupils thanks to a donation from Mr Johann Deinböck of Munich. Grades 8 to 12 are taught at the school. The renovated school was officially inaugurated by the governor in August.

The Fälschle couple visited the school they sponsored in 2022 in June. Among the delegation was also District Administrator Rößler of the Donau-Ries district. For the occasion, Mr Fälschle had T-shirts printed for all the school's pupils and teachers. To celebrate the day, in addition to a dance performance there was also a lunch traditionally cooked by the parents.

Expansion of the primary school in Matidze into a basic school

During the visit of a Mozambican delegation from Vilankulo to Aalen on 16 September, the two mayors William Tunzine and Frederick Brütting exchanged views mainly on the topics of climate change and waste management. Aalen and Vilankulo could mutually benefit from each other here.

The educators from Mapinhane visited the DMG-Ingrid and Claus Albrecht preschool in Mangalisse and the DMG-Otto Kieninger Foundation preschool in 19 Outubro. At this meeting an important exchange took place about working methods, experiences and dealing with the pandemic.
